Sales of One Water at the University fund a seventh PlayPump
The University of Manchester has helped to fund a seventh PlayPump in Africa, ensuring that 2453 children and 2850 adults have access to fresh, clean water in the village of Ulongwe, Malawi. The PlayPumps are funded by the sale of One Water at all FoodOnCampus outlets.
While children have fun spinning on the PlayPump merry-go-round, clean water is pumped from underground into a large storage tank standing several meters above the ground.
The University has already funded PlayPumps at other locations including:
- Makgabana Village, South Africa
- Ikagisano Intermediate School, South Africa - 160 children now have access to fresh, clean water
- Zwide Primary School, Swaziland
- Ha Lebina Village, Lesotho - 700 children and 652 adults now have access to fresh, clean drinking water
- Mavuwa F P School, Malawi
