Saturday 29 January / 11am-4pm
Monsters
The Museum is home to many monsters, from Stan the T.rex, with his bone-crushing bite, to the myths and monsters found on our ancient Greek pots. Meet these and many more monsters and take part in hands-on monster activities.
11am-4pm: Monster activities
Monsters are everywhere in the Museum - scary dinosaurs, Greek and Roman monsters on pots and coins, Chinese dragons and enormous animals like monster butterflies. Get close to some of the objects and join in monster related crafts.
Drop-in, free, all ages
11am-1pm & 2-4pm: Make a life-size mossosaurus
When people found fossils of dinosaurs and other pre-historic creatures they thought they might be monsters. We’ve drawn a life-size mossosaurus, a giant sea creature from the time of the dinosaurs. Come along to the Pre-historic Life (fossils) gallery to help decorate this ‘monster’.
Drop-in, free, all ages
12-1pm: Family Friendly Film screening
Watch short animated films about dinosaurs, including How dinosaurs eat their food and T is for Terrible.
Book on the day, free, under 7s and their families/carers
1.30-2.30pm: Greek and Roman monster tour
Cyclops, sphinx and Chimaera are some of the many monsters on display in the Museum. Join our archaeology expert Bryan Sitch on this tour of the Museum, to find out where these monsters are hiding and to hear some of the Greek and Roman myths inspired by these monsters.
