Supporting Technical Staff Development: Annual Development Conference 2011

Register with STDU for a place by 17 December
The annual development conference for all University technical staff will take place on 10 January 2011. This is a free event co-ordinated by the Staff Training and Development Unit.
The theme for this year’s Conference is:
- Developing Technical Careers: Keeping Going
Aim
To enable those attending to access a range of support and ideas to maintain momentum in addressing their personal, professional and career development ambitions.
Specific Objectives
By the end of the day those taking part will have:
- Had opportunity to hear how senior technical staff have developed their own careers and have considered a range of tips and strategies to help;
- Be aware of the internal and external staff development support available to them in developing their careers;
- Had opportunity to consider various career planning tools and exercises;
- Attended various personal development sessions on building confidence, developing communications skills and so on.
Indicative Agenda
- 9.15am Welcome and Introduction – Senior member of University staff
- 9.30am We Did it Our Ways – Joint presentation from University technical staff on managing their development and careers
- 11am Parallel Sessions 1 – A choice of sessions will be made available around the conference themes
- 1.15pm Internal and External Support for Professional Development
- 1.45pm Parallel Sessions 2
- 3.30pm Next Steps – Questions, summing up and feedback
- 4pm Conference Close
