Are you involved in research on Manchester and the city region?

Come to a meeting on 13 December (1pm) in G30/G31, Arthur Lewis Building

Earlier this year, information was circulated about the Faculty of Humanities Transforming Cities Initiative (TCI). There were lots of enthusiastic responses, and subsequently four "thematic" meetings have taken place around "culture", "migration", "restructuring" and "environment".

What became clear at those meetings, and in others we have had, is that many staff in the Faculty are working on the Manchester city region. On themes such as climate change, consumption, culture, economy, education, environment, gangs, languages, migration, neighbourhoods, policing, public services, regeneration, sustainability and transport, to name but fifteen, staff across the Faculty of Humanities are involved in researching Manchester and the surrounding areas.

So, at 1 pm on Monday 13 December, in G30/G31, Arthur Lewis Building, we want to bring together everyone (in the Faculty of Humanities and beyond) who is doing research on Manchester and the city region. The purpose of this meeting is threefold:

  1. To begin an audit of all the work being done in the Faculty on Manchester and the city region, with a view to it being an integral element in the newly designed TCI website;
  2. To bring together those from across the six Schools who are working on overlapping themes, as a means of instigating a series of new inter-disciplinary conversations;
  3. To think through how this work might be better co-ordinated within the University and externally as a means of raising its impact.

Prior to this meeting, please e-mail transforming.cities@manchester.ac.uk with your name AND up to three areas of interest, as some of the meeting will take place in smaller thematic groups.
