New on StaffNet: DSO website for staff working with disabled students
29 Nov 2010
New section created to help staff support disabled students
Given the fact that there are over 3470 disabled students on campus, and the University remains one of the most popular for disabled applicants, then the chances are very high that whether you are a University professor, a porter, a secretary, a counsellor, a car park attendant, a security officer, a receptionist, a lecturer, a researcher, a web designer, an estates manager or if you have virtually any other role in the University, what you do will have a very significant impact on the experience of our disabled students.
The key legislation that governs our legal duties and responsibilities in this area, describes all of our University business and activities as 'student services' - this includes obvious things like teaching, providing support, library and careers services, but also goes on to mention things such as procurement, financial decision-making, estates management etc.
These new web pages will hopefully help to provide you with the key information that you will need to be able to ensure that what you do is inclusive for disabled students, and doesn’t put any unnecessary barriers in place.
