Inspection by Human Tissue Authority in February 2011: further information

11 Nov 2010

All staff working with human tissues are asked to prioritise preparations for the inspection visit

As you are all aware, the University is going to be inspected by the Human Tissue Authority in February 2011. It is essential that we are seen to have the highest standards of practice and are fully compliant with the law.

The consequences of a poor outcome from the inspection are, at best, a serious loss of reputation for the University and further scrutiny of our practices and, at worst, suspension of the HTA Licence with immediate suspension of all research activity involving licensable human tissues.

Professor Giorgio Terenghi (Designated Individual for the HTA Licence for Research) is currently meeting with all Persons Designated to set out what needs to be done in preparation for the Inspection. All staff who work with licensable human tissues should prioritise preparations for the inspection, fully comply with what they are being asked to do and observe all the deadlines.

I should also add that, following the survey of human tissue holdings earlier this year, we have now identified the laboratories that have licensable holdings of human tissue:

Only these laboratories are now accredited to store licensable human tissues. If anyone is holding licensable human tissues outside these laboratories, they will not be covered the University’s Licence:

Thank you in advance for your help with this.
