The University is recruiting an Associate Vice-President and a Director for the Student Experience
The University is committed to improving the student experience. As part of this process, the University is increasing the level of senior leadership for this activity. Professor Colin Stirling is recruiting an Associate Vice-President (see advertisement and further details) to help him progress the learning, teaching and student experience agenda. The Registrar and Secretary, Albert McMenemy, is recruiting a Director for the Student Experience (see advertisement and further details). Both appointments will be internal to the University. The intention is to provide, at both the academic and professional support service level, leadership and overall strategic responsibility for the student experience. Both levels will work together in partnership.
The aim is to improve the experience of all of our students, irrespective of the level of study. A rolling programme of improvements will be introduced. Key aspects will be to bring about the structural and operational changes that are required in parts of the Professional Support Services to ensure that the support for students is improved through streamlining delivery and increasing efficiency. The Director for the Student Experience will lead this project which will be carried out professionally and strategically. Initially, the student focussed services within the following existing organisational structures will be included within the remit of the Director for the Student Experience:
- Student Support and Services
- Teaching and Learning
- Student Recruitment, Admissions and International Development
- MLP Careers and Employability
- STARS
Commenting on these developments, Albert McMenemy, Registrar and Secretary said: “Colin Stirling and I wish to make it easier and more fulfilling for students to derive benefit from the range of student focussed services the University offers. That means that we must introduce changes to overcome any organisational, process, policy or cultural impediments that may exist. We do not know yet in full detail what these are. One of the incoming Director’s first tasks is to lead this strand of work. Like all change and desire for improvement there is opportunity and uncertainty. We will seek to minimize the latter and maximize the former. We would ask all colleagues and students to help in this process.”
