Wood Street Mission Christmas Project 2010

29 Nov 2010

Please donate new toys, other gifts, books, food or money by 3 December

There are now fewer than 100 shopping days to Christmas! Wood Street Mission has been planning the 2010 Christmas Project since earlier in the year. They want to ensure that no child goes without a new toy on Christmas Day and they won’t be able to achieve this without your support.

The following donations to the Christmas Project are all welcome:

Brand new toys and gifts for children (0-13 years)

This Christmas, Wood Street Mission is only accepting new toys. This has been a difficult decision for them, but last year they were inundated with large quantities of very poor quality secondhand toys which could not be used. The time spent sorting through these donations and the costs involved in having to dispose of most of them were considerable and Wood Street cannot sustain these costs again this year. The toys do not need to be expensive items, but should be gifts you would be happy to give your own children.

New or secondhand children’s books (0-13 years)

If secondhand, the books must be in excellent condition, without pages missing or written on; ex-library books are not appropriate gifts for children at Christmas.

NOTE: Please do not wrap any presents. You can, if you wish, donate sheets or rolls of wrapping paper for us to give to the families to wrap the gifts themselves.

Non-perishable food items

  • Tins of vegetables, meat, fish or fruit
  • Tins or packets of soup
  • Packets of pasta or rice
  • Puddings or desserts
  • Biscuits, crackers or savoury snacks
  • Tea, coffee or other hot
  • Beverages
  • Tins or jars of savoury sauces
  • Jams and pickles
  • Chocolate treats
  • Boxes of cereals

NOTE: All food items must have an expiry date clearly printed on the packet and must be in date up to 31 December 2010. Please do not split multiple packs, as individual items do not bear an expiry date and therefore cannot be used. Wood Street will split the packs when making up the food hampers.

If you wish to donate a gift or would like further information about what to donate, please contact:

Muriel will arrange for your gifts to be collected and will have them delivered to Wood Street Mission during the week commencing 6 December.

Financial donations

The Christmas Project will cost in excess of £20,000 to finance this year. Any financial contributions to this project would be most welcome. You can donate direct online at:

As always, Wood Street Mission is incredibly grateful for your support and would like to thank you for your help with the 141st Christmas Appeal.
