Toys & games
Take part in nature and animal themed games and activities linked to the Museum's collection. Get drawing to make our giant snakes and ladders game or have a go at conkers and games from countries around the world. Find out about the history of toys from Roman and Egyptian times. Part of Black History Month and The Big Draw.
Most activities are free and drop-in. Some activities may need to be booked on the day and may cost up to £1.50. All ages

Vedic Mathematics and Indus archaeology
Join Dr. Navaratna S. Rajaram for a talk on the history of mathematics and the role of archaeology in the Indus region. Dr. Rajaram is a mathematical scientist who after more than twenty years as an academic and industrial researcher turned his attention to history and history of science. He authored several acclaimed books on ancient history including Sarasvati River and the Vedic Civilization, Vedic Aryans and the Origins of Civilization (with David Frawley) and The Deciphered Indus Script (with Natwar Jha). He is best known for showing the connections between Vedic Mathematics and Indus archaeology and deciphering a 5000 year old Indus script jointly with the late Natwar Jha. Part of Black History Month.

Showcase lecture

An Infinity of Things
Frances Larson, anthropologist, historian, author and honorary research fellow at Durham University, will talk about her book An Infinity of Things. The book tells of one of the largest private collections ever made, making it a vital and unprecedented work of reference for curators and researchers.
