Events for all at the Manchester Museum

 

Here's some details of the events taking place at the Manchester Museum in the next couple of weeks, including the Manchester Weekender.

 Friday 1 - Sunday 3 October
Manchester Weekender
48 hours of city-wide art, culture, music, film, food, literature, walks, politics, poetry, photography, theatre and spectacle all wrapped up into a single weekend. With poetry, elephant and architecture events at the Museum.


Saturday 2 October 11am-4pm: Postcards from Manchester
Acclaimed poets Mandy Coe and John Siddique will be on hand in the Museum to help you write a poetry postcard, capturing your unique impressions of the sights, sounds and smells of the city. Free, drop-in.


Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 October  11am-4pm: Manchester elephant

Discover the story of the Museum's elephant, called Maharajah, and his 200 mile walk from Edinburgh to Belle Vue Zoo. Make your own elephant hat to take away with you.
Drop-in, free, all ages.


Saturday 2 October  1pm-4pm:  Reflective Room
Meet the designers of Reflective Room, the temporary structure in the Museum's Courtyard, in an afternoon of activities. Reflective Room has been designed by the Prototype Unit and built by 5th year Architecture students from the Manchester School of Architecture (msa).

Monday 4 October 12.30pm-1pm
A History of the World mini tour
Unravel the stories behind objects we have chosen for A History of the World (a partnership between the British Museum, the BBC and museums across the UK).
Drop-in, free, adults and older children.

Wednesday 6 October 2.30pm-4pm
Chinese tea ceremony
Take part in a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. The art of serving and drinking tea plays a major role in Chinese culture. The Chinese tea ceremony is quite different from English or Japanese tea ceremony. Come and experience Chinese tea ceremony! Also you could taste different Chinese tea. There are three parts to the event: tea introduction, tea ceremony and tea taste. In association with the Confucius Institute at The University of Manchester. Part of our China: Journey to the East exhibition.
