Special lecture for alumni and staff on Tuesday 21 September

There will be a lecture for alumni and staff, organised by the Division of Development and Alumni Relations, on Tuesday 21 September 2010 entitled "Urban Climate Change in Cities of the South: Disasters or slow invidious changes?". The lecture will be presented by Professor Caroline Moser, Professor of Urban Development and Director of the GURC (Global Urban Research Centre) in the School of Environment and Development.

The popular tendency to relate natural disasters to climate change means that slow, often imperceptive and consequently invidious, changes to the severity of weather receive far less attention. Yet, as recent research in Mombassa (Kenya) and Esteli (Nicaragua) show these may be more significant across cities of the South. These issues will be discussed in detail by Professor Moser.

The lecture will be held at the Manchester Conference Centre, Sackville Street at 6.30pm, with tea and coffee available from 6pm. The lecture is free to attend but advance booking is required. For more information or to reserve your place, please contact:
