Whitworth makes Lever Prize shortlist

University's art gallery nominated for second year in a row
The gallery will compete with four of the Northwest’s most outstanding arts organisations for a £10,000 cash prize and a year long collaboration with business leaders in the North West.
The Lever Prize is judged by the North West Business Leadership Team (NWBLT), comprising of 28 of the region's largest companies, in partnership with Arts and Business North.
The other shortlisted entries are Band on the Wall, Tatton Park Biennial and The Lowry.
Director of the Whitworth Art Gallery Maria Balshaw said:“As a runner-up in 2010, we are delighted to once again be shortlisted for the Lever Prize.
“The prize offers enormous potential to work with local businesses and the talented, driven individuals that run them”.
Buildings, events, festivals, libraries and archives are all eligible for the award and previous winners include Liverpool Biennial in 2006, Manchester International Festival in 2007, Tate Liverpool in 2008 and the National Football Museum in 2009.
The 2010 holder is Future Everything and the 2011 winner will be announced at an event in Manchester in March.
