Changes to MATLAB
16 Aug 2010
Action required by users on unmanaged desktops
MATLAB is the one of the main mathematics software packages in use at the University. It is used by staff and students from many different areas of the University, not just the School of Mathematics.
What is changing?
The University’s MATLAB licences are being upgraded to version 2010a. As part of the process, the old licence servers will be switched off on 1 September 2010.
Why is this change happening?
When you start up MATLAB, the software connects to a licence server. The licence server then gives the user’s computer access to MATLAB. The old licence servers are not compatible with the new version of MATLAB, so it is necessary to turn them off and switch to a new set.
What impact will this have on users of the service?
If you access MATLAB from a computer that is on a managed desktop, such as a PC cluster, you will automatically be migrated onto version 2010a of MATLAB. If you use MATLAB from a machine that is not running the staff or student managed desktops, you will not be able to access MATLAB from 1 September, unless you migrate to the new licence servers.
What action does a MATLAB user need to take?
If you access MATLAB from a managed desktop, you do not need to do anything.
If you access MATLAB from a machine that is not running a managed desktop, you need to visit:
and take one of the following steps, by 4pm on Tuesday 31 August:
- Upgrade to MATLAB 2010a
or - Follow a migration path to allow an older version of MATLAB to point to the new licence server
