A review, chaired by Professor Colin Stirling, has made recommendations which will lead to a step change in the way the University timetables teaching and books rooms:

A new Timetabling and Shared Learning Spaces Group has been established which will bring together academic and administrative staff to provide an oversight of teaching and learning spaces across the University and to improve engagement with staff and students who use those spaces.
The Group's work will be based on the principle that a key element of the student experience at the University of Manchester is the extent of time spent in teaching space. Therefore the quality of this teaching space and the provision of effective procedures to manage it are critical.
The Group met for the first time in July and has already started a pilot of new software for timetabling and room booking. The software will remove duplicate or unnecessary processes which diminish the student experience and waste staff time and resource.
