Biomaterials scientist receives Humboldt Research Award

Prestigious lifetime achievement award for Professor David Watts
Professor David Watts, Professor of Biomaterials Science at The University of Manchester School of Dentistry and the Photon Science Institute, has been awarded a prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Research Award.
The award is granted annually to "academics whose research achievements involve fundamental discoveries, new theories, or insights which have had a significant impact on their own discipline and who are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements in future". He was nominated by a group of German university professors.
The lifetime research achievement award will involve Professor Watts spending a period of up to one year cooperating on a long-term research project. He will work with specialist colleagues at German research institutions, including the Universities of Jena and Munich. As an award winner, he will also meet the President of Germany.
