An effective solution for your short-term staffing needs

The Manchester Graduate Internship Programme (MGIP) provides University staff with an effective recruitment solution designed to meet short-term staffing needs and helps to improve the employability of our graduates.

New graduates are ideal candidates for project work in areas such as administration and marketing and as well as front-line positions. These paid internships last between four to 12 months.

The MGIP team, which is part of the MLP, Careers & Employability Division, supports University colleagues throughout the recruitment process and helps to identify and recruit suitable candidates.

The programme, now its third year, comes highly recommended. Hilary Garraway, PGT Manager at the Manchester Business School, says: "We only received applications from candidates with relevant backgrounds and experience which saved us time. Our interns are keen to learn and are happy to tackle all tasks given to them."

Lucy Millard, Environmental and Sustainability Officer in Estates, agrees. She says: "MGIP takes the hassle out of recruitment, providing a guaranteed pool of talented individuals to choose from. Our chosen graduate has an excellent knowledge of the University, and is very enthusiastic and hard working."

Janet Ellis, Student Support Officer at the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work, adds: "The interns add a new dimension to our work. As recent graduates, they bring a 'user’s knowledge' to the University’s systems and processes. We have employed two interns on one-year contracts and each has brought different qualities and skills to the role."

All positions and salaries should be agreed with local HR managers in the first instance.
