2010 Dame Kathleen Ollerenshaw lecture announced
21 Apr 2010
Cambridge mathematician Professor Timothy Gowers to deliver talk
The title of the lecture is ‘Open Source Mathematics’ and will look at a recent experiment carried out by Professor Gowers where he tackled a mathematics problem in a very public way!
He suggested an initial approach on his blog and invited people to contribute thoughts about how the problem might be solved. His talk will focus on the surprising outcomes of the experiment and the problem itself.
Professor Gowers is a Fellow of the Royal Society and Rouse Ball Professor of Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics at the University of Cambridge.
The Dame Kathleen Ollerenshaw Lecture is a prestigious annual lecture designed to raise the profile of mathematics at Manchester.
