Celebrating International Women's Day

01 Mar 2010

Events on 8 March

The Equality and Diversity Team are delighted to announce a day of events to celebrate International Women’s day on Monday 8 March. This is in conjunction with the recently launched Diversity Calendar where March’s theme is International Women’s Day.

Events will include a Women’s Day breakfast, discussions and presentations centering on female pioneers and a historical walk of the City. This walk will introduce a range of feisty females, from those who fought to get the vote, to those who misbehaved. The roles of the original domestic goddess, a millionaire widow, and the city’s first socialite will be explored, and their legacies revealed. You’ll hear of real women who acted out of love, fear, a desire for fun or a wish to improve this city.

This is due to depart from the Manchester Tourist Information Centre in the Town Hall Extension on Lloyd Street (next to the Central Library) at 5pm on Monday 8 March.

The student population will also organise several events including a cultural exchange and a 'bring a dish' event, and take part in a global event: ‘meet me on the bridge’.

Please share this information with your colleagues and we look forward to welcoming you all to this event!

More details and a full timetable can be found at:

Please note that although these events are free, the walk does require pre-booking as spaces are limited to 25.
