International Women's Day

22 Feb 2010

Celebratory events on 8 March

The University of Manchester Historical Walk

The Equality and Diversity Team are delighted to announce an historical walk of Manchester on Monday 8 March. This is in conjunction with the recently launched Diversity Calendar in which  March’s theme is International Women’s day.

This walk will introduce a range of feisty females, from those who fought to get the vote, to those who misbehaved. The roles of the original domestic goddess, a millionaire widow, and the city’s first socialite will be explored, and their legacies revealed. You’ll hear of real women who acted out of love, fear, a desire for fun or a wish to improve this city.

The walk aims to take in many of the spots in Manchester where women have made a significant impact. This is due to depart from the Manchester Tourist Information Centre, in the Town Hall Extension on Lloyd Street (next to the library) at 5pm on Monday 8 March.

Please share this information with your colleagues and we look forward to welcoming you all to this event!

A Manchester Celebration of International Women's Day at Gorton Monastery

Gorton Monastery will host a Manchester Celebration of International Women's Day, offering a unique opportunity for women from across the North West to come together to share their experiences.

The day has two focuses; building skills and giving back, with the morning giving the opportunity to build networks through unique, interactive exhibits. The afternoon will give women the opportunity to voice their opinions and offer their support to issues that affect them, such as climate change, sustainability and technology.
