Accredited leadership course for early-career research staff
Early-career research staff across the University have another opportunity to join Researchers into Management, a leadership development programme accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management.
An open information session on 22 February will give details on the programme, before the application deadline on 8 March 2010.
The course runs on nine days between March and July, and aims to give research staff a practical framework for developing excellence in managing and leading.
Researchers into Management gives researchers effective approaches to managing people, projects and teams, together with many practical tools and examples.
Participants on the two previous cohorts said they had:
- enjoyed exploring their own tendencies and gaining insight into others’ management styles
- expanded their views about what managers should focus on
- become able to train and support junior lab members more effectively
- gained confidence and calm when dealing with unexpected situations!
‘I think the course was really very useful, we often see researchers and managers as two different entities whereas in reality we need to be both.’[Participant]
