Train as a Walk Leader for urban walking project
Get Walking Keep Walking is an urban walking project from The Ramblers promoting walking around Manchester. We are looking to work with The University of Manchester to help set up lunchtime walks for staff and students to promote health, socialising and discovering some of the local area that you may as yet have not come across.
GWKW run four weeks of led walks which will all be developed and mapped out specifically for The University of Manchester. We would like to find some volunteers to continue to support the walks after the four weeks. You will receive full Walk Leader training (an accredited qualification) which includes leading the walks, benefits of walking, risk assessment, insurance and route design. The course lasts for five hours (which can be split into two 2.5 hour sessions, if more convenient). It is an interactive, fun course which should give you the confidence to run the walks yourselves.
We are looking for anyone who enjoys walking and would like share that enjoyment with others to come forward as volunteers! We are hoping that we will get a few interested Walk Leaders so that you can then share the responsibility.
The walks will be one hour long in the local area (a different walk each week) and all participants get a free walking pack and step-counter and lots of tips and advice from our volunteers.
