Charles Darwin: evolution of a scientist
05 Oct 2009
New Manchester Museum exhibition launching on 3 October
Discover who Charles Darwin was and the impact of his work in this new exhibition at The Manchester Museum.
Get up close to objects Darwin used and collected, including the sextant he navigated with and carried in his pocket during his voyage around the world, on the Beagle (1831-36). Read some of the letters he wrote about insect-eating plants. Through the huge graphic-novel style illustrations, discover key moments from Darwin’s early childhood and life as a student, his legendary voyage on the Beagle and the publication of his ideas in On the Origin of Species. Find out how Darwin’s ideas about evolution are still relevant to us today.
This promises to be the highlight of the Museum’s year-long Darwin extravaganza. Don’t miss our programme of special events with lively talks and debates and activities for all the family. Highlights include a poetry reading from Darwin’s great-great-grand-daughter, Ruth Padel, and a comedy performance based on Darwin’s voyage around the world.
