Travel arrangements for Conservative Party conference

Be prepared for busy public transport and bus diversions around city centre
Thousands of people are expected to arrive in Manchester for the 126th Conservative Party conference, which will take place at Manchester Central, formerly G-Mex, between Monday 5 October and Thursday 8 October. Work to reopen the conference area after the event is likely to continue into Friday 9 October.
During the conference period, buses, trains and trams will be busier than normal. The following diversions to city centre bus services will be in place:
- Inward bus services 42a, 46, 47 and 191 will travel right into Oxford Street; then left into down Portland Street; then left through Charlotte Street, Spring Gardens and King Street, then left into Cross Street and Princess Street. Outward services will run as normal.
- Outward services x40, x41, x43 and x44 will travel right into Chorlton Street, Bloom Street, Sackville Street, left into Portland Street, then down Charlotte Street, Spring Gardens, King Street, Cross Street and John Dalton Street then continue as normal. Inward services will be as normal route. Passengers from Albert Square should take the bus from King Street stand CL.
- Night services 8, 17, 39, 67 and 135 will be diverted down Portland Street, Charlotte Street, then right down Spring Gardens, Fountain Street, then High Street to Shudehill before continuing as normal.
- Metroshuttle 3 services will be diverted along Piccadilly, Portland Street, Chepstow Street and Great Bridgwater Street. The service will continue down Deansgate, Quay Street, New Quay Street, Chapel Street, Bridge Street, John Dalton Street and Princess Street before continuing as normal.
- Metrolink replacement bus services will run from Victoria Station to Piccadilly Station, then Fairfield Street, then right down Whitworth Street, Sackville Street, left down Portland Street, Charlotte Street, Spring Gardens, King Street then Cross Street before terminating at Princess Street.
