Improve Your Writing Skills

01 Oct 2009

Final few places available

If you produce any kind of written communication to colleagues, students, suppliers or customers as part of your job here at the University, then you might find this session useful.

Perhaps you have to write letters, newsletter articles or brochure copy and would like some tips on how to make sure you're getting your message across clearly and concisely?

There will be plenty of advice and tips on offer and opportunities for you to practice your skills through written exercises and lively discussion.

Among other things, the course will look at:

  • How to deliver messages and instructions clearly
  • Tone, style and structure of written work
  • Using active and positive words to interest your audience
  • How to avoid using jargon and over-complicated language
  • How to deliver bad news or apologise
  • Understanding the importance of proof reading

The session takes place on Friday 30 October starting at 12.30pm in the STDU in the Humanities Bridgeford Street Building.

This is just one of the sessions delivered as part of 'Communications Matters' - a series of workshops designed to help you improve your communication skills.

There are only a few spaces left on ‘Improve Your Writing Skills’ and these will be allocated on a first come first served basis. To book your place email courses-stdu@manchester.ac.uk or telephone 52525. You should quote course code BF60.
