iCub pulls out of Manchester Science Festival

Robot demonstrations on 24 and 25 October have been cancelled
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the iCub will not be appearing at the Manchester Science Festival on 24 and 25 October after all.
The iCub - the most advanced humanoid robot in Europe on 24-25 October - is modelled on the size of a small child and is the standard platform for studies in cognitive science within the EU's 7th framework research programme.
The iCub visited Manchester earlier this year for its UK debut and generated much media interest. It was brought by a team of scientists from the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), Genoa who have been pivotal in developing the iCub. A one-day symposium and a public lecture given by the Director of IIT, Professor Darwin Caldwell, was hosted by the University.
The iCub is able to catch balls, crawl and even play the drums. Dr Martin Brown (School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering) and a post-graduate student in the Centre for Interdisciplinary Computational and Dynamical Analysis (CICADA) are currently working on making the robot walk and eventually run.
Although iCub won't be appearing, there's bound to be something else to interest you at Manchester Science Festival 2009 (24 October - 1 November). There are over 150 events for families and adults on offer, including walks, talks, workshops, shows, comedy, exhibitions and more - all in the name of science. Enjoy!
