Funding for Erasmus Staff Mobility to Europe in 2009/10

The Study Abroad Unit will once again be distributing Erasmus funding for staff mobility. Erasmus offers a well funded opportunity for academic and administrative staff to teach or work elsewhere in one of the 30 participating countries in Europe. You can get to know first-hand the workings of another European educational system, and deliver a course with European colleagues or discover best practices to bring back to your role in Manchester.
Staff can participate in two strands of Erasmus: Teacher Mobility and Staff Training.
Teacher Mobility (TM)
The Teacher Mobility scheme provides funding for Teaching undertaken at European Higher Education Institutions (who have been awarded an Erasmus Charter by the European Commission). This might be provision of workshops, a series of seminars etc.
Staff Training (ST)
Staff training is an option for all staff, and can involve teaching and non-teaching staff. There are three types of training eligible for funding:
1) Mobility of any member of staff of an HEI going to an enterprise in another participating EU country.
- The purpose is to allow staff to acquire new knowledge or practical skills. The activities can be very varied: seminars, workshops, periods of practical training, short secondments, etc.
2) Mobility of administrative and other non-teaching staff from an HEI going to a partner higher education institution.
- The purpose is to allow staff to learn from the experiences and good practices of a partner institution and to improve the skills required for their current job. This may be through a short secondment period, job-shadowing scheme, study visit, etc.
3) Mobility of teaching staff to a European HEI for the purpose of receiving training.

Erasmus ("European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students") is the European Commission's educational programme for Higher Education students, teachers and institutions. It was introduced in 1987 with the aim of increasing student mobility within the European Community, subsequently the European Economic Area countries, and the Candidate Country of Turkey.
