Access to Library electronic resources off-campus

Local authentication has replaced the Athens system
Last summer, the Library and IT Services implemented local authentication allowing staff and students to use their University central usernames and passwords for off-campus access to many electronic library resources. This replaced the previous system which made it necessary to obtain and use a separate Athens account.
The change was prompted by the decision of the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) to no longer fund the Athens service and to instead launch the UK Access Management Federation.
It has not been necessary to issue new staff and students with Athens accounts since the introduction of the new system and any existing Athens accounts have now expired.
