What's on in August
Welcome to The Manchester Museum's ebulletin for families. The summer holidays are finally here and to celebrate we have an exciting month of events for all the family! Come and get creative with a mixture of arts and crafts activities to welcome The Manchester Hermit. Celebrate the opening of our new Nature Discovery activity area part of The Evolutionist Darwin extravaganza! for younger visitors and their families. Get comfy on our Magic Carpet and enjoy exciting stories and fun activities.
Why not come and watch some great films during our Family Friendly Film Festival including First Flicks for under 5's or The Goonies for all the family?

Manchester Hermit
Has now moved in!
Artist Ansuman Biswas has now taken up his residency as a hermit in the Museum's tower for 40 days and 40 nights which began on Saturday 27 June. He has been looking at some of the Museum's hidden objects and uncovering their stories. Find out what today's object of the day is on Ansuman's blog or find out what he's doing on the webcam. Art and craft and cave-related activities to welcome The Manchester Museum's resident Hermit. Most activities are free and drop-in. Some activities may need to be booked on the day and may cost up to £1.50. All ages

Big Saturday: Nature Discovery
Saturday 8 August, 11am-4pm
Celebrate the launch of The Evolutionist, our Darwin extravaganza. This Extra Big Saturday will be a day of fun and adventure. Find out who Darwin was and what he did. Explore the Museum and meet some of the animals Darwin met on his Voyage of the Beagle. Join in craft activities and learn about the local ecology outside the Museum.
Some activities may need to be booked on the day. Most activities are free. Some activities may cost up to £1.50. All ages.
Nature Discovery holiday activities
Monday 10 August - Friday 28 August (weekdays only), 11am-4pm
To celebrate The Evolutionist our Darwin extravaganza! Come and explore the world of animal vegetable and mineral in Nature Discovery, our new activity area for younger visitors and their families. Make creatures and flowers that Darwin would have discovered on his adventure around the world.
- Monday 10-Friday 14 August: Tree world
Make birds and bats and other animals that live in trees - Monday 17-Friday 21 August: Undersea world
Make underwater animals from recycled junk - Monday 24-Friday 28 August: Meadow world
Make flowers and bees from recycled junk - Wed 12, 19, 26 August, 1-3pm: Nature Detective
All activities are drop-in, Free, suitable for all ages
Family Friendly Film Festival 2009
Friday 7 August - Sunday 16 August
Running at venues across Greater Manchester. Activities at the Museum will include First Flicks, screenings for under 5s and an evening screening of The Goonies on Monday 10 August.
