First call for expressions of interest in new project proposals
The University of Manchester and Johnson & Johnson Inc launched a Co-Managed Research Fund on 24 April this year. It was created to enable early stage development of novel research ideas with the potential for translation into new healthcare applications and generating intellectual property.
In its inaugural year, the fund is looking to provide four grants, each of up to £60,000, to enable University researchers to undertake one-year pilot projects on novel research to demonstrate proof-of-principle.
Of particular interest to the Fund are projects with applications in the following areas:
- Managing wellness and personal medicine (including implantable devices, sensors & novel active neural interfaces)
- Treatment by medical device &/or means of surgery, regenerative medicine, tissue engineering or pharmaceuticals of diseases in the following major therapeutic areas: cardiovascular, pulmonary, cancer, inflammation, metabolic, inflammation, bone diseases
- Diagnostic biomarkers for diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer
University researchers wishing to apply to participate in the scheme should submit an Expression of Interest by email to:
no later than Friday 24 July with the following information:
- Brief academic biography or resume
- State of development of the proposed project
- Overview of current Intellectual Property (IP) or potential to generate new IP
- Non-confidential abstract, description and keywords for the Project (no longer than 2 pages)
- Proposed healthcare application and clinical relevance
Successful applicants will be requested to submit a substantive formal project proposal in conjunction with UMIP by Friday 18 September.
