‘In Place of War’ launches international network

Staff and students are being invited to attend the launch of a new international network of theatre practitioners and academics.
The ‘In Place of War Network’ will bring together people from Kosovo, Gaza, Sudan, DR Congo, Sri Lanka, Northern Ireland and the UK – all of whom are involved in theatre or performance.
The network will look at the role and impact of theatre and performance in places of armed conflict. It has been created following a three year AHRC funded research project called ‘In Place of War.’
The network will meet once a year over the next three years in network partners’ countries. Rather than looking at war as a theme in theatre and performance, the project looks at theatre taking place in war zones. Topics covered include theatre in refugee camps, war affected villages and towns and cities under curfew or occupation. Performance by refugees in host countries is also studied.
