FoodOnCampus supports Fairtrade's world record banana-eating attempt!
This year's Fairtrade Fortnight has already begun and FoodOnCampus is doing its bit across campus to promote the benefits of fairly traded products. FoodOnCampus has taken part in Fairtrade Fortnight for the past four years, since The University of Manchester first gained its Fairtrade status in March 2005, and is proud to have seen the achievements that have been made since then.
Over 1.5 million cups of Fairtrade coffee, 75,000 bottles of fruit juice and 20,000 Fairtrade chocolate bars are consumed on campus each year and FoodOnCampus sells ONLY Fairtrade bananas. A selection of Fairtrade clothing, including t-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts, is also available to buy in some of its larger outlets, with more to come in future months.
The theme of this year's Fairtrade Fortnight is 'Go Bananas' and features a world record attempt for the amount of bananas eaten in 24 hours!
