The National Student Survey 2009.

27 Jan 2009

Information Sheet: Promoting the NSS.

The 2009 National Student Survey (for final year undergraduates) launches at The University of Manchester on 2 February 2009. Final year undergraduates will be approached by an external agency, Ipsos MORI, to complete the online survey, and it will remain open until the end of April.

There is an internal University website which contains links to further information about the National Student Survey at:

Please note: this website is for information and promotional materials. It is NOT the link students should use to complete the survey.

The NSS results are used by prospective higher education students to choose what and where to study - and by universities, colleges and student unions to make improvements and enhancements to the student experience.

It is commissioned by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) on behalf of the other funding bodies and the institutions taking part - and it is supported by the National Union of Students (NUS).

Students can access the survey at:

The support and encouragement of a student’s school/programme team has been shown to be highly influential in achieving a high level of response to the National Student Survey. Please ensure that colleagues in your School are aware of the survey and encourage them to promote it to final year undergraduates.

NB: The TQI-NSS Steering Group and HEFCE remind all HEIS that whilst they "believe it is appropriate to remind students that they should complete the NSS and that they should consider their responses carefully ... encouraging students to reflect in their answers anything other than their genuine perceptions of their experience, such as making an explicit link between the NSS, league tables and the perceived value of students’ degrees, is not acceptable."

With many thanks
