Showcase - Human Remains: issues and challenges

Wednesday 3 December 3-5pm

The Manchester Museum has recently repatriated Maori ancestral remains to the Te Papa Tongarewa, Museum of New Zealand. This showcase seminar explores the Museum's principles and practice with regard to human remains, particularly those of UK origin. It also looks closely at how this has been put into practice through displays including Lindow Man: A bog body mystery and the opening up of the Human Remains Debate.

Lindow Moss: A place of finding by Stephen Vaughan
Opening 13 December 2008

Lindow Moss: A place of finding documents the landscape at Lindow Moss, the mysterious place where the preserved body of Lindow Man was found. Over a period of four years, through changing seasons, photographer Stephen Vaughan regularly returned to Lindow Moss in order to photograph the trackway that runs through the centre of the peat bog, as well as the ‘peat-rooms’ that sub-divide the landscape on either side. This exhibition pays attention to the slow passage of time in the landscape arising from an urgency to record this 'place of finding', before it disappears.
