An interdisciplinary conference examining the role of material culture (with a focus on textiles) in constructing national, local and folk identities.
Speakers include:
- Dr Jeremy Howard (University of St Andrews) on the formation of national styles c. 1900
- Dr Moira Vincentelli (University of Aberystwyth) on material culture and Welsh identity
- Professor Anne Douglas (Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen) on the ‘On the Edge’ project
- Professor Lesley Millar (curator of cloth & culture NOW) in conversation with Estonian textile artist Kadri Viires and Lithuanian textile artist Severija Incirauskaite
- Velta Raudzepa (Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, Riga, Latvia) on 20th century Latvian textiles
- Yvonne Dröge Wendel on the Universal Pattern Project
