eLearning Network: First meeting on 30 October.

For all staff interested in using technology to enhance teaching and learning.
The newly formed eLearning Network will meet at the end of the month.
The Network is open to all staff who have an interest in using technology to enhance teaching and learning and is intended to provide a forum for colleagues to new discuss ideas and to learn about projects taking place across the University.
The Network brings together all existing University wide eLearning networks into one grouping to help support the development of a large and diverse eLearning community.
The first of a series of informal meetings will be held on Thursday 30 October 2008 from 12noon to 1pm in Room G.51, Chemistry Building, which is number 61 on:
The programme for the first meeting is as follows:
- Cath Dyson, eLearning Manager, Humanities will Welcome and Open the Network
- Paul White from the eLearning Applications Team in IT Services will give a presentation and demonstration the University's new and exciting Video Library Server
- Geoff Norton will showcase his SBL Interactive software suite which enables lecturers and others working in education to create and deliver scenarios as an aid to problem-based learning or enquiry-based learning
The Network is open to all members of University staff with an interest in the innovative use of technology to enhance teaching, learning and assessment. The purpose of the network will be to facilitate the sharing of ideas and to showcase best practice and innovative tools. The aim is to foster a community of practice working together to support the realisation of the University's eLearning Strategy.
The Network group will meet twice per semester, and will provide:
- an opportunity for staff to engage in eLearning discussions and to explore all aspects of eLearning from pedagogical to technical issues;
- an opportunity for individuals (both internal and external speakers) to showcase innovative use of technology;
- a forum to propose changes or developments to the eLearning applications portfolio.
Ideas for the Network such as topics for discussions/presentations, guest speakers and showcasing of projects are all very welcome.
