Chinese Calligraphy
Calligraphy (shufa) is the traditional art of writing Chinese characters, the quintessence of Chinese culture. After centuries of creation and evolution, calligraphy has become a unique art form. Chinese scripts are generally divided into five styles: seal script, official script, regular script, cursive script and running script.
This eight-week course will focus on how to use the Chinese brush and ink, the basic strokes of Chinese writing and the structure of constructing Chinese characters. By the end of the course you will produce your own calligraphy work to decorate your home or office. No previous knowledge of Chinese is required.
Classes take place every Thursday from 6pm to 7.30pm, starting on 23 October. Costs are £100 for members of the public and £85 for University of Manchester staff and students. This fee includes a brush and ink set.
