Music and Drama in June and July

Monday 30 June 6.30pm: Join us for an early evening burst of poetry and prose with new novelist Joe Stretch and poet Neil Rollinson. Both authors have been Writers in Residence at the Centre for New Writing during 2007/08.

Tuesday 1 July 6.30pm: Martin Amis Public Event: Literature and Religion with James Wood and Graham Ward. Since September 11 2001, the status and role of religion in modern society has become a much commented upon and fiercely contested issue. In this third public debate of his first year as the Centre's Professor of Creative Writing, world-renowned novelist Martin Amis will be joined by noted literary critic James Wood and leading theologian Professor Graham Ward.

Thursday 3 July 8pm (doors 7.30pm): Kokoriko - with special guests Stray Dogs (Kirk McElhinney and Jason Singh). Kokoriko's music reflects their passion for roots music from across the world put through the jazz blender. You'll get Egyptian melodies riding over a Latin groove, reggae mixed with English folk, or Miles Davis-influenced voicings dropped onto ancient Afro-Cuban beats. Original, daring and often celebratory, they prove the power of music as an international language that crosses borders and underlines our shared humanity. This show also features visuals designed by Iranian artist Banafsheh Bahrami.

Sunday 6 July 8pm - The Worst Zoo in Britain: Award Winning Comedian Tudur Owen presents his new show. Tudur Owen is a bilingual comedy writer and performer based in Wales. Tudur has 10 years experience of performing stand up in both English and his first language Welsh. He has written, presented and performed numerous television and radio shows culminating in his recent BAFTA Wales winning comedy series for S4C 'The PC Leslie Wynne Show'. Tudur was also one of the winners of the BBC THREE comedy writing competition The Last Laugh in 2005.

Monday 7 July 8pm - Galway Girl: "Galway Girl" by Geraldine Aron is a remarkable one-act play about an Irish couple who spend 35 married years on opposite ends of the compatibility spectrum, a situation which brings both laughter and tears to the audience. As an entry in the Not Part Of Festival, it is presented by Fringe Benefits (in association with the Pados Theatre Group).

Friday 11 and Saturday 12 July 7.30pm: Theatretrain presents...OH EIGHT! Come with us on a magical journey through the past 100 years. 62 young people aged 6 to 15 will sing, dance and act their way through the century, culminating in the most important events of all.

Coming up in August: Process08 - a series of Master Classes provide a one of a kind opportunity to work alongside and learn with some of the worlds most innovative and pioneering Hip Hop Masters. In addition to this, Process International Hip Hop Film Festival 08 is a groundbreaking 3 day event, a first for the City of Manchester and the North West region of England.
