International Students' Orientation Programme 2008.
20 Jun 2008
Information for staff about publications and arrival/orientation arrangements.
The Student Recruitment, Admissions and International Development Division would like to inform colleagues about information that has been published and is currently available for prospective international students and the progress of planning for the International Students' Orientation Programme September 2008.
Publications
The first publication, the Arrival Guide, is being sent out to all international and EU offer holders who have accepted. It includes both pre-departure information such as immigration issues and travelling to the UK, as well as post-arrival subject material such as living in the UK: transport information, cultural issues. It is therefore intended that it acts as a continuous resource for the student. Posting of the guide began at the end of May.
Offer holders are now also being sent an Orientation Guide providing more detail about the Orientation Programme for International Students.
Arrival and Orientation for new International Students
The Airport Collection Service for new students will run from Monday 15 September to Monday 22 September (inclusive) from 7.30am to 9pm.
The Orientation programme will have a similar structure to last year. It will take place from Thursday 18 September to Sunday 21 September inclusive. It will be based in and around the new University site - University Place on Oxford Road - which is on the South Campus, but acts as a focal point for most students.
The main difference to the programme is on Sunday. Instead of having one follow-up presentation, there will be a series of presentations by individual, specialist presenters enabling a repetition of Friday's sessions. This should allow students flexibility regarding arrival, especially individuals whose accommodation contracts start at the weekend.
