Readings and Martin Amis public event in June and July.
Summer in the City
Another event has been added to our summer programme of readings and debate, with this year's MA students of fiction and poetry now appearing at Manchester Central Library on Friday 18 July. The lunchtime reading is free of charge and begins at 1pm, so do go along and hear what the Centre's alumni are producing for yourself.
Our other summer events are:
30 June, 5pm: Neil Rollinson and Joe Stretch (this year's writers in residence), Martin Harris Centre (£3/£2)
Neil's most recent collection, 'Demolition', was published to much acclaim as he joined the Centre in September 2007. Joe was heralded as a 'hot star of 2008' by the Independent ahead of his controversial debut novel, 'Friction'.
1 July, 6.30pm: Literature and Religion (Martin Amis Public Event), University Whitworth Hall (£5/£3)
The latest in our popular, Martin Amis-hosted debates features noted literary critic James Wood, currently a staff writer at The New Yorker and Professor of the Practice of Literary Criticism at Harvard, and leading theologian Professor Graham Ward.
23 July, 1pm: Ian McGuire and Michael Symmons Roberts, Manchester Central Library (free and unticketed, just come along!)
Centre co-director Ian McGuire published his contemporary campus tale 'Incredible Bodies' in 2006, and is currently putting the finishing touches to his second novel. Whitbread Poetry Award-winner and fiction-writer Michael Symmons Roberts' second novel, 'Breath', and new poetry collection 'The Half-healed' are both published this year.
