Professor Alan North to concentrate on Medical and Human Sciences.

Search for new Dean of Faculty of Life Sciences to commence immediately.
Since 2006, Professor Alan North has held the Deanships of both the Faculty of Life Sciences and the Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences.
I have agreed to a request from Professor North that it is now timely to initiate an international search for a new Dean for the Faculty of Life Sciences in order to allow him to concentrate on the Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences and to take forward the development of cross institutional health research in Manchester. With his unique insight into the two Faculties he will be ideally placed to work closely with the new Dean of Life Sciences to promote ongoing and future synergies and partnerships between the life and the medical and human sciences. He will continue to serve as Vice-President of the University and to direct his personal research laboratory.
The Faculty of Life Sciences has seen remarkable academic growth and development during Alan’s leadership. It is clearly not only one of the very best such groupings of academic bioscience researchers in the UK, but also a highly collegiate working environment, and a major contributor to the strategic thinking of the University as a whole. We are fortunate that he is now able to bring his vision and leadership on a full-time basis to the Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences.
The search for the new Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences will commence immediately. Professor North will continue as Dean of the two Faculties until his successor is appointed.
