Practical Biobanking: A two-day intensive course.

30 June & 1 July at The Nowgen Centre, Grafton Street, Manchester.
This two-day intensive course is designed for both Biobank sponsors and researchers looking to establish and maintain a successful biological sample resource. The emphasis of the course will be on the practical aspects of establishing and running a Biobank.
On the first day we will cover:
- Biobanking DNA and tissue
- Data accrual and sharing
- Laboratory Information Management Systems
- Design and optimisation of operating systems
- Quality and standards
- A round table discussion on the everyday running of a Biobank including choice of hardware & consumables, sample replenishment and running a Biobank efficiently
- Delegate dinner including after-dinner keynote speaker and discussion: Why ethics matter in biomedical science
On the second day we will cover:
- Sample and process research for better Biobanking
- Access policies
- Developing national and international biobanking networks
- A trip to UK Biobank
- Sample and data accrual, shipping, storage and retrieval of samples at UK Biobank
The course has been accredited by the Royal College of Pathologists.
Cost: £375 for two days. Lunch and refreshments included. Course fee does not include overnight accommodation. A list of nearby hotels, together with a course information pack, will be sent to participants upon receipt of booking.
