UMSS Ltd is the corporate Trustee for the University of Manchester Superannuation Scheme (UMSS). The directors of UMSS Ltd are therefore trustees of UMSS and have overall responsibility for the management of the scheme and the investment of the assets.
The Board of UMSS Ltd has nine directors, five of whom are nominated by the University (University Nominated Directors); three who are selected by UMSS current members according to defined staff categories and one by UMSS pensioners (Member Nominated Directors).
There are vacancies for a Member Nominated Director (MND) in each of the following categories for current members: administrative and related staff, technical and related staff, and manual and related staff.
If you wish to stand as MND, you must:
- Have been a member of UMSS for at least 3 years
and - Obtain 20 signatures on an official Nomination Form from UMSS members within your staff category
The existing MNDs are eligible to stand for re-election. If one valid nomination only is received for each category, the nominee will be automatically appointed as a MND. If more than one valid nomination is received an election will be held.

Nomination Forms should be requested by 2 June 2008. Completed Nomination Forms should be returned to the Pensions Office by 12 noon on Friday 9 June 2008.
