City South: Unlocking Manchester's economic potential.

Did you know that you are working in the heart of an area which is soon to undergo exciting and ambitious developments? You'll have a chance to find out more on Wednesday 28 May at an Open Meeting on the Manchester City City South Partnership to be hosted by Peter Fell, Director of Regional and Economic Affairs at The University of Manchester.
City South is a new development agency which has been set up to drive forward the knowledge economy and create 34,000 jobs for an area immediately south of Manchester city centre. The area is nearly 600 acres in size and stretches from St Peter's Square in the north to Whitworth Park in the south and takes in areas bounded by Cambridge Street to the west and Upper Brook Street to the east.
The Partnership includes Manchester City Council, The University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and the Central Manchester and Manchester Children's University Hospitals NHS Trust and the North West Regional Development Agency, and is chaired by Professor Alan Gilbert.
City South will ensure that the universities and Health Trust's existing investment programmes (worth £1.5 billion in total) connect and offer maximum benefit for the city and the region. The aim is to create iconic institutions that will not only advance education, science and innovation, but also enrich the culture, create jobs and enhance the economic and social well-being of local communities. There will be a special emphasis on sporting and cultural facilities, strong transport connections, and green spaces.
As its first major task, City South will consult on the proposed development plans with all stakeholders in the area, including university staff and students.
The Open Meeting will take place from 1pm to 2pm in the Chaplaincy Lecture Theatre, St Peter's House, Oxford Road. Seats will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, so please arrive promptly.
