Concerts, Poetry Review spring issue launch and return visit by BBC Phil.
The Martin Harris Centre's season of events continues with:
Thursday 10 April at 1.10pm - David Fanning & Nicholas Cox
In the next in our continuing series of FREE lunchtime concerts, the RLPO's principal clarinet joins our own Professor David Fanning for:
- Weinberg's attractive, Jewish-folk-inflected Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, Op.28
- Brahm's mellow late masterpiece, Sonata in E flat, Op.120 No.2
- Berg's intense expressionist miniatures - Four Pieces, Op.5
Friday 11 April at 7pm - The University of Manchester String Orchestra in concert
Naomi Burrell and Charlotte Turner conduct three pieces:
- John Ireland's Concertino Pastorale
- Kevin Malone's Fast Forward
- Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings
Monday 14 April at 6.30 pm - Literature Live season: Poetry Review spring issue launch
The Centre for New Writing's Literature Live season continues with an evening of poetry readings from some of the region's finest talents, with the magazine's editor Fiona Sampson and guest poets Sarah Corbett, Michael Murphy and Michael Symmons Roberts.
Wednesday 7 May - Return visit from the BBC Philharmonic
Gianandrea Noseda, Chief Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic introduces players from the Orchestra in the next of a continuing series of chamber concerts. The programme will be Mendelssohn's String Octet and Shostakovich's Two Pieces for String Octet, Op. 11, Prelude and Scherzo. These concerts give you the chance to hear Gianandrea talk about the Orchestra's work, hear some exceptional playing from our players, enjoy a free glass of wine after the concert and an opportunity to talk to the BBC Philharmonic players and Gianandrea.
Friday 13 to Sunday 15 June - Quatuor Danel Open House weekend
Looking further ahead, we have just announced details of the Quatuor Danel Open House weekend which is taking place from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 June at the Martin Harris Centre. This three-day event is a fabulous music-making opportunity with the Quatuor Danel and Professor David Fanning coaching students and members of the public, directing sight-seeing sessions and taking part in informal concerts alongside those ensembles who wish to perform in public.
