Friends of Tabley House: Summer Programme of Events.
13 Mar 2008
Proceeds will fund the redecoration of the House's Dining Room.
The Friends of Tabley House have announced their Spring and Summer programme of events for 2008. These will contribute to their fund for the redecoration of the House's Dining Room. The specialist restorer will be Charles Hesp, who has recently been doing work at St. Paul's Cathedral and is currently working at Alnwick Castle.
The Friends have arranged some good fund-raising events over the next few months to help things along:
- Wednesday 14 May at 7.30pm - A fascinating talk on "Tracing Your Ancestry". This subject is exciting much public interest after television programmes such as "Who Do You Think You Are?" John Benson, an archivist at Cheshire Archives and Local Studies, will take his audience through this fascinating process, covering the main sources that are useful - and where to find them. He will also use the Tabley House family of Leicester-Warren as an example. The archive in Chester is a major source for family historians - it has records going back to the 12th century and the collections attract 8000 visitors a year. John is prepared for a lot of questions after his talk! Tickets will be £8 (£6 for Friends).
- Wednesday 18 June - Celebrate Liverpool's "Capital of Culture" year with an all-day coach trip to the city. There will be a morning visit to the newly refurbished St George's Hall, one of the finest neo-Grecian buildings in the world. After lunch, and some free time, there will be a conducted tour of the Walker Art Gallery. The coach will also take a short city tour of some of the important landmarks in the city. Tickets will be £18 (£16 for Friends) (lunch not included).
- Wednesday 23 July at 7.30pm - A "Summer Evening of Songs, Stawberries and Bubbly". The Cheshire choir, Consort, will sing some wonderfully varied music, from Elizabethan madrigals to Gershwin, Gospel and much in between. Consort was founded in 1988 as a madrigal group to help celebrate the 800th anniversary of St Wilfred's Church in Grappenhall. The group has since grown and now sings music from the 15th to the 21st centuries. There will be Champagne and Strawberries in the interval for the audience (and afterwards for the choir!). Tickets will be £16 (£14 for Friends).
