An exhibition about family resemblances and why they matter to us.
11-16 March 2008, Zion Arts Centre, Manchester, and online
This exhibition, which is part of the 2008 Festival of Social Science, is based on the Living Resemblances project at the University of Manchester. The project is investigating resemblances in appearance, character, talents and habits between relatives and others.
Some people positively like the idea that they resemble someone in their family. Others enjoy spotting resemblances in their own, or other, families. But sometimes people deny family resemblances, or are worried about them in case looking like someone means they might inherit an illness or turn out like someone they dislike.
This exhibition looks at how and why resemblances are important in people's everyday lives. It includes winners of the Who are you like? photo competition and family album images, tracing resemblances through generations of one family.
Venue and locations
The exhibition is at the Zion Arts Centre, Hulme, Manchester, 10 minutes walk from Manchester city centre and the South Campus. See our website for directions.
The exhibition is open from 7.30am to 9pm every day, 11-16 March 2008.
