07 Apr 2025

Over 10,000 students at the University of Manchester had their say in the 2025 Lead MCR election.

Lead MCR

Eight students have now been elected to lead the Students’ Union and represent the voice of the student body throughout the 2025/26 academic year.

They are:

  • Lexi Baynes - Union Affairs Officer
  • Aaina Mohapatra - Activities and Culture Officer
  • Elliot Briffa - City and Community Officer
  • Sharon Mary Dominic Raj - Wellbeing and Liberation Officer
  • Rachel Miller - Postgraduate Research Officer
  • Rhi Patel - Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health Officer
  • Amrit Dhillon - Faculty of Science and Engineering Officer
  • Alec Severs - Faculty of Humanities Officer

These elected officers play a key role not only in supporting students but in working closely with University staff across a wide range of strategic areas, from education and student experience to wellbeing, inclusion, and sustainability.

Why this matters to University colleagues

The Students’ Union officers act as a bridge between students and the University, ensuring that student voices are heard in key decision-making processes. As colleagues, you may engage with these student leaders in:

  • University committees and working groups, where they provide insight into student priorities
  • Joint projects and campaigns, such as initiatives to improve student mental health, enhance teaching and learning, or promote sustainability
  • Student feedback and consultation, helping to shape policies and services that directly impact the student experience

Their ideas, priorities, and lived experiences play a crucial role in shaping how we work together to improve student outcomes.

We’ll be introducing the new team in full shortly – including their priorities and how you can engage with them in your area. In the meantime, you can learn more about their election campaigns and the issues they stood for below.
