Team Rwanda: Student applications open for flagship volunteer project

14 Feb 2025

After a successful summer in Rwanda in 2024, the University’s flagship overseas project Team Rwanda is back for 2025. Help us increase the range of experiences available to widening participation students by spreading the word about this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Team Rwanda

The partnership project between the University and Azizi Life will see a group of students travel to Rwanda to volunteer alongside Rwandan volunteers for a month on community research, digital media, enterprise and environmental projects, supporting local artisans and their communities.

The project will give a team of student volunteers the chance to gain valuable skills, develop their inter-cultural awareness and enhance their employability.

“Azizi Life thanks everyone who made this project possible. The volunteers worked hard from day one until the end to create very useful materials and documents, which are helping Azizi Life to increase its impact with the artisans through improved visibility and growth, as well as sustainability in the long run. We value their help in making that happen!” - Jeannine Umutoniwase, CEO of Azizi Life

“The project helped me get to know more about myself. It let me know that the only thing holding me back from everything I wanted to do is myself. The impact that Azizi Life had on the artisans who work with them inspired me to keep moving forward no matter what!” - Abigail Pentolfe, Team Member 2023. Aerospace Engineering MEng with year in Industry

In addition to Team Rwanda, students across the University are able to explore opportunities with our Trusted Partner organisations, where increased funding is helping to make overseas volunteering more accessible.

Applications to Team Rwanda will close on Monday, 3 March at 9am.
