Hello, I am based at the Neuroscience and Psychiatry Unit. At this unit, we are recruiting individuals to participate in new research. Ethics approval from NHS North Manchester Research Ethics Committee reference 07/Q1406/36.
We're looking for healthy male volunteers aged 18-45 who are interested in helping us with our research into finding out how certain chemical messenger systems in the brain are disturbed in psychiatric illnesses. This will involve taking medication that can affect these chemicals whilst having a brain scan.
Description
Participation will involve three visits. In the first visit you will be needed for one and a half hours. For the second visit you will be needed for four to five hours. For the third visit you will be needed for one hour.
During visit one, you will be asked to complete several questionnaires, to have a physical health review and a psychiatric interview, and to do computer-based tasks. In addition, you will be asked to give samples for genetic analysis.
During visit two, you will be given medication that can affect brain chemicals followed by a Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) brain scan whilst carrying out various tasks.
In stage three, you be asked to complete the various tasks carried out in stage two again but will not be given medication or have a brain scan.
Incentive
For the second visit you will be paid between £30 and £40 for four to five hours participation (the exact amount will depend on how you complete one of the tasks). In addition, participants who complete all three visits will enter a prize draw of £100.
