Ensuring your safety on campus

18 Nov 2024

At the University, the safety and wellbeing of our students, staff, and visitors is our top priority. We have implemented a range of measures to ensure a safe environment for everyone on campus.

Campus buildings

Alongside these measures, our dedicated Campus Support & Security team is available 24/7 to provide assistance – and they carry out regular patrols across campus to deter and respond to any potential threats. They can be contacted on 0161 306 9966.

SafeZone

SafeZone is an app designed to speed up potential response times from Campus Support & Security when you need urgent help, first aid assistance, or wellbeing support. In the event of an emergency, we can also keep you updated via text messages should you need to be aware of any vital information.

We are part of the Manchester SafeZone Alliance, meaning you can use across our campus, as well as the Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Salford campuses.

Lone working

We have a comprehensive Lone Working Policy to ensure your safety when working alone on campus, as well as to help you feel confident and secure in such cases.

If you plan to work alone in a university building or similar environment, in a community or research setting make sure you take time to read this document so that you’re aware of your responsibilities. Key aspects of this policy include risk assessments, managing and mitigating risks, and routine precautions that you can take.

Report and support

If you have a safeguarding concern or experience or witness harassment, bullying, or any form of discrimination, you can report it anonymously through our support system or speak directly to a trained advisor. Our team is committed to addressing all concerns promptly and effectively.

Reclaim the Night

The Students’ Union are hosting Reclaim the Night  an annual campaign against sexual harassment and gender-based violence. It will take place on Thursday, 21 November, at 6.30pm outside the SU building, with the march beginning at 7.00pm.

All colleagues are encouraged to join this demonstration around safety and autonomy for all women and marginalised genders in Manchester. It will feature speeches.
